Beautiful Home, Quiet Beach

By: Trip Date: 08/03/2019

We have stayed in 20+ beach homes over the years and this is by far the nicest we have ever experienced. The home accommodated our family of 7 with ample room to spare. The dining table is so large that we were able to keep board games set up at one end and eat at the other! My husband loves to cook and he was in heaven in that kitchen! There is plenty of room for parking under the house which was nice for rainy days.

All that being said, the beach was different than we’ve ever experienced. There are no waves, which makes it very quiet. There are very few neighbors but some do drive on the beach with a permit. The current is very swift as the water comes in and out of Apalachiacola Bay. The water was not at all clear and full of seaweed and sea grass, so much so that we could not swim, snorkel, or even wade in it. We did enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding across the bay to St. Vincent Island and were able to enjoy the beach on the south side of the island. But I recommend connecting with the Island’s FB page because there are many restrictions as to where you can go. There was a controlled burn the day we had planned to go so we had to postpone the excursion. We saw 8-10 dolphins swimming in a pod, coming in and out of the bay almost daily. We purchased a license and caught blue crab from the shore and had a feast.

In the town of Port St. Joe there is a nice grocery store, hardware store, several small restaurants (recommend DoDaddy’s for fried seafood) and bars, and a great ice-cream stand. But the area is still recovering from hurricane Michael, so options are limited, including gas stations.

We will return to Tarpon Sound because the house was so magnificent and the beach was so tranquil, though our children, all in their 20s, would rather be able to enjoy the beach more in a different location.

Off the beaten path

If you are looking to get away from it all, this is pretty much your place. Beautiful home with wonderful art work and calm waters with what seems like your own private beach! Our family had a wonderful time here.

Beautiful Home

By: Trip Date: 06/29/2019

The home was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, the water was not clear and there were boats up and down the sound. This is a wonderful place to take a boat or go fishing-but not a great spot for swimming.

Wonderful Place

What a wonderful place you have. We have had a great week, good weather, good fishing, and family time. We had to leave last time because of Hurricane Michael, so pleased your place survived.

Beautiful home!

By: Trip Date: 07/14/2018

The home was absolutely beautiful! It was very clean, well stocked & with top of the line appliances , comfortable beds & linens & a great, private beach front location. We loved the fact that we could bring our dog to such a well appointed home & that he was allowed on the beach & in the water. If I would suggest one thing to future guests, bring bug spray!! We loved the easy access to the boat ramp, just steps from the home, so bring your boat or jet skis. Truly a beautiful home!

1st time in this area!

By: Trip Date: 09/01/2018

The house was beautiful and the area was quiet. There was wildlife always in the area and we enjoyed driving golf carts on the beach. I cant wait until next year.

Tarpon Sound

By: Trip Date: 10/06/2018

Our stay at Tarpon Sound was great except for being cut short by Hurricane Michael. The home was prepared well and was exactly as described. We will gladly rent thru Cape and Sound rentals again and look forward to the Gumbo from the Indian Pass Raw Bar.

Awesome time at Tarpon Sound

By: Trip Date: 05/18/2019

Our overall experience at Tarpon Sound was awesome. We loved cooking in the gourmet kitchen. The only items missing was extra large mixing bowl, broom and a dust pan.
The location was excellent too ! Having a boat ramp in walking distance was very convenient.
