About St. George Island State Park

On the eastern end of St. George Island, you will find the state park. Part of the park is located along Apalachicola Bay, where you will find marshes and pine forests. The other is located along the Gulf of Mexico and is home to beautiful beaches and blue waters. Experience the diverse natural wonders found at the park while enjoying these activities:

Hangout at the Beach

St. George Island State Park is beloved for its beautiful beaches. Soak up the sun on the nine-mile stretch of white sandy shoreline and take a dip in the clear Gulf waters. While you are playing at the beach, you may spot some local wildlife like white ghost crabs skirting across the sand or dolphin pods playing in the distance.

The beach is also a great spot to stroll and look for seashells. Bring a picnic lunch and have your meal at one of the shelters along the beach.

Explore the Nature Trails

Immerse yourself in the park's natural beauty on the nature trails. Explore the one-mile East Slough Trail and walk on a boardwalk through the scenic dunes and forests. Or take the 2.5-mile Gap Point Trail for a longer hike. As you explore, keep your eyes peeled for the bird species that inhabit the park.

Explore the Water

Experience the beauty of St. George Island from the water! Rent a canoe or kayak from the ranger station and launch it into Apalachicola Bay for a fun paddling adventure. Bring your fishing pole with you and cast your line from the kayak. You can find even more incredible fishing from the shoreline on the Gulf side.

Go Camping

If you are interested in spending a night outside your vacation rental, St. George Island also offers some great camping spots. Spend your days exploring the park and your nights sleeping under the stars. The state park has minimal light pollution and offers fantastic stargazing for overnight visitors.
